Having denounced recent resignation rumours doing the rounds on both social and mainstream media, concerned party stalwarts that are suspicious of the activities of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) National Advisory Committee (NAC) have challenged their National Chairman, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, to come clean on his alleged intention to resign his current position and join the 2028 flagbearer race.
The party dismissed the resignation rumours and described Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray as a seasoned political leader and has been a stalwart in the APC since his youth albeit it failed to explain whether the National Chairman has any presidential ambition for 2028 as reported by this medium.
Some stalwarts in the APC, who spoke to this medium on condition of anonymity, alleged that erstwhile President Ernest Bai Koroma, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray and the Deputy National Chairman, Alhaji Osman Foday Yansaneh, had resolved the leadership contest in the party long ago as to who would be the National Chairman and presidential candidate after Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara, who has contested twice as presidential candidate.
They believe that NAC is surreptitiously working on the leadership plan that was proposed by the former National Chairman and Leader of APC, including eliminating potential aspirants from the presidential race to enable Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray to win the flagbearer contest for the 2028 presidential election.
“Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray must come clean about his alleged plan for the flagbearer race because we believe NAC is manipulating everything in his favour in order to disadvantage other would-be flagbearer aspirants,” one of the stalwarts alleged.
The stalwarts however vowed that they would no longer allow the imposition of presidential candidate on the party or they would challenge any such attempt in court.
Meanwhile, the grassroots members of APC in Kono District have made it crystal clear that they feel strongly about the absence of key figures like Chief Sam Sumana and Lady Diana Konomani from the APC’s current leadership. They believe their participation is deemed essential for fostering a sense of belonging and unity within the party.
The grassroots emphasized that without the inclusion of all members and a concerted effort to promote unity, they would refrain from participating in the registration and verification process.
The sentiment is clear: unity is non-negotiable.
