The Group of Seven (G7+) has appointed His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone as "Eminent Person" of the most powerful group, becoming the first African Head of State to hold such a position.

G7+ is an informal grouping of 7 of the world's advanced economies and the European Union (EU). Its members meet annually at the G7+ Summit to discuss global economic and geopolitical issues. The summit is an international forum held annually for the leaders of G7+ Member States of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK, and the USA.

This moment of President Bio's appointment has Bern described by a Sierra Leonean political scientist as symbolic because it is a diplomatic breakthrough for Sierra Leone.

"Once known only for fragility and conflict, our nation now steps forward as a contributor to global governance," the political scientist averred. "This elevates our international standing and provides a platform to shape conversations on peace-building, governance, and development."

The political scientist furthered that for politics and governance, President Bio's appointed as Eminent Person of G7+ "comes with responsibility. Sierra Leone must align its domestic governance with the ideas it now champions globally because credibility abroad begins with accountability at home. In truth, this appointment is more than a title. It is a reminder that even nations once written off as fragile can rise to shape the world."
He believes that "leadership is not about where you cone from, but about the vision you carry for humanity."

The G7+ countries aim to discuss topics including energy policy, international security, and global economic control. The G7+ takes the lead globally and is a powerful catalyst on the above issues.

President Bio, as the first Eminent Person of G7+ in Africa, means he will now be privileged to discuss global issues with the advanced economies of the world and enhance collaboration.

As Chairman of ECOWAS Authority and Coordinator of African Union Committee of Ten (C-10) seeking two permanent seats with two veto power alongside two additional non-permanent seats to ensure the continent's voice is heard in global decision-making, President Bio's positions in the subregion and the continent will make his participation in the G7+ Summit very crucial for aligning the group and C-10 strategies. His participation will ensure that Africa's perspective and needs are heard on the global stage.
