The Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) on Friday 10th October, 2015, demonstrated strong alignment with women's voices in the ongoing Constitutional Review Process, endorsing nearly all proposals submitted by women's organisations.

Speaking at the National Women's Conference on the Constitutional Review Process and Tripartite Recommendations for Women’s Empowerment organised by Campaign for Good Governance (CGG) at the Family Kingdom Resort at Lumley Beach in Freetown, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Alpha Sesay Esq., announced that the government had accepted 15.5 out of 16 recommendations put forward by women stakeholders.

The legal luminary assured that the review process remains on track, with plans to submit the revised Constitutional sections on elections to Parliament before the end of the year, ensuring the new constitution is in place ahead of the next polls.

Alpha Sesay Esq. emphasized that the government is committed to addressing women's concerns, describing the process as "inclusive and nationally driven."

He further highlighted the importance of public sensitization on the Constitutional review and pledged to collaborate with partners on a nationwide awareness campaign.

Delivering the Tripartite Secretariat's Report, Head of the Tripartite Secretariat, Mr. Ngolo Katta urged women to remain engaged and monitor legislative reforms, including the SLBC Act and IMC Act, to ensure their interests are fully protected.

Participants, drawn from women's organisations, the media, and Parliament hailed the government's response as a major step towards women's political and legal empowerment.

They also commended CGG for facilitating the dialogue and pledged ongoing collaboration to ensure women's voices are reflected in the final constitutional document.

In her remarks, CGG Executive Director Marcella Samba-Sesay called for unity among women's groups and encouraged sustained advocacy efforts until the constitutional review fully embodies gender equality and inclusivity.
