The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) yesterday Wednesday 23rd April, 2025 stated in a press release that “individuals of political parties are requesting for police security to hold public meetings without reference to their respective secretariats.”
The release reminded all such individuals that all requests must be originated from their party secretariats with three days prior notice, adding that all political parties are reminded of their responsibilities and roles as per the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) Act.
“In line with our commitment to maintaining public order and ensuring the safety and security of all citizens, political parties are reminded to strictly adhere to established protocols regarding such gatherings,” the release states, adding, “It is important to note that all meetings must be held at designated venues and not conducted as street rallies.”
As the police remain dedicated to safeguarding the democratic process through the enforcement of lawful and orderly conduct, they therefore urged all political parties to cooperate fully with these guidelines in the interest of peace and national stability.
“The SLP appreciates your understanding and continues cooperation, and looks forward to fostering a peaceful and secure political environment throughout the country,” the release concluded.
This development comes following incessant public meetings and street rallies organized by some flagbearer aspirants of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) in Freetown without the consent of their party secretariat.
