Integrity questions are being raised by critics about the eligibility of the current President of Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Thomas Daddy Brima, to contest for re-election in the June 2025 Elective Conference.

It could be recalled that on Thursday 4th April 2025, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested and detained at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters in Freetown the SLFA President, the Financial Secretary, Ibrahim Bah, and the Acting Secretary General, Mohamed Benson Bawoh, in relation to an ongoing investigation it had launched for the alleged embezzlement of US$720,000.00 that was meant for the development of football in the country.

They spent the night at the CID Headquarters but were released the following Friday to enable them attend the SLFA Extraordinary Congress that commenced at the Radisson Blu Mammy Yoko Hotel at Aberdeen, Freetown.

It was a conference that never was, as the SLFA President Thomas Daddy Brima left the scene unceremoniously.

The one-million-dollar question many concerned football stakeholders are asking is what, if the ACC finds enough evidence to indict the SLFA President for the alleged embezzlement of US$720,000.00, will the Integrity Committee allow him to contest for the SLFA presidency in the Elective Conference slated for June 2025? Many football stakeholders believe that the integrity of Thomas Daddy Brima is now at stake and should therefore not be allowed by the Integrity Committee to contest the SLFA presidency until he is cleared by the ACC.

“It’s only a matter of time when the ACC will indict Thomas Daddy Brima and two other executive members because evidence abound for indictment,” one of the football stakeholders said, adding, “There is every indication that ACC is going to indict them even before the Elective Conference.”

Meanwhile, the corruption probe has cast doubt on the integrity and credibility of the SLFA Executive, raising serious integrity questions about governance within the association.
