In his capacity as Minister of Energy, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio yesterday Wednesday 21st May, 2025 relieved, with immediate effect, the Director General and Deputy Director General of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), Dr. Joe Lahai-Sormana and Ing. James Rogers, of their duties.

According to a press release, the Chief Operating Officer will act as the interim head of management until the substantive Director General and Deputy Director General are appointed.

In line with the ongoing efforts to reform EDSA, the holders of the following positions were also directed to proceed on leave with immediate effect: the Commercial Manager, Head of Revenue Collection, Head of Technical Commercial Operations, and Marketing Manager.

“These changes are designed to initiate a comprehensive reform initiative at EDSA encompassing but not limited to: 1. Establishment of a centralized revenue collection account; 2. Increased private sector participation in electricity distribution; 3. Deployment of prepaid, tamper-proof meters for T4 customers; 4. Comprehensive overhaul of EDSA's ICT infrastructure; 5. Targeted staff training and capacity building; 6. Direct oversight of the Project Implementation Unit by the Ministry of Energy,” the release states.

It concluded that the Ministry of Energy reaffirms President Bio's strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and the sustainable transformation of Sierra Leone's energy sector.
