Heightened tensions and chaos on Saturday 7th June, 2025 marred the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) lower-level executive elections in Constituency 131 that culminated in the cancellation of the entire process.
According to eyewitness accounts, disputes over delegates’ accreditation, alleged bias, forgery and interference by election officials sparked outrage among supporters of rival camps.
Tempers flared when several delegates were reportedly barred from entering the voting hall, prompting protests and accusation of foul play.
The atmosphere became too volatile to proceed with the process safely, forcing election officials to call off the process.
The Satellite gathered that another contention was raised for the cancellation of the elections.
Three (3) delegates from the zonal executives, who resigned from their zonal executive positions and contested for constituency executive positions but lost, were also made delegates.
The SLPP Rules and Regulations and the Party Constitution state clearly that once someone has contested for a higher position, whether they win or not, they should vacate their previous positions.
Another issue is that there was one delegate from Zone 10 by the name of Edmond Sidikie, who has travelled out of the country, but his documents were forged for another person to answer his name. The same forgery was done for other two fake delegates in a bid to influence the outcome of the poll.
