The National Mandingo Union has endorsed the hard-working Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay, as their leader at a well- attended crowning ceremony at Catco hall in Freetown on Saturday 28th April, 2019.
The crowning ceremony was graced by Mandingos from the various regions of the country.
Alhaji Kanja Sesay has been very dedicated to the progress and advancement of Mandingo people in the country.
As such, his contributions have not gone unnoticed according to many of the tribesmen at the event.
Chiefs and delegates from across the country unanimously endorsed Alhaji Kanja Sesay and promised their unflinching support for the progress of the union.
In his contribution, renowned BBC journalist Umaru Fofanah called on members to unite for the development of the Mandiga union, noting that, all members should put their grievances aside and work with the new leadership. He described the gathering as a milestone in the history of Mandingos in the country.
One of the Union’s elders, Mohamed Lamin Fofanah called on the members to support the newly endorsed President and not to harass him unnecessarily.
Giving his thank you message to the jam-packed crowd, he commended all the chiefs and delegates for gracing the occasion. He noted, he had carefully listened to the various speakers and will take their statements in good faith.
He said he felt humbled, considering the keen interest and support he has received from members.
According to him, when he was approached to lead the union, he consulted his wife, family and by extension President Julius Maada Bio before accepting the honor. He stated that his endorsement was not political despite his current position in the New Direction government but a consensus reached by the Mandingo union for him to serve.
He emphasized the need for unity amongst members since they are plenty in the country, noting that, they are going to work with various ethnic groups in the country to promote national cohesion.
He appealed to the general membership to continue their support after the crowning and that it should be reflected at the district levels.
