Concerns have recently been raised over the unethical attacks on the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) following their interception of a container suspected to contain substances used in the production of Kush. The SLPHA reportedly handed over the container to the Sierra Leone Police for further investigation but the consignment allegedly missing did not missing.
Despite the tremendous efforts made by the Authority to combat drug trafficking and abuse in Sierra Leone, some individuals continue to accuse the SLPHA of negligence and claim that the container vanished under their watch.
In response, members of the SLPHA have openly clarified that the container was duly handed over to the Sierra Leone Police, as investigations of that nature fall within the Police’s mandate. Nevertheless, a few ill-minded Sierra Leoneans are attempting to tarnish the good reputation of the Authority by falsely blaming them for the alleged disappearance.
Such actions are both unfair and counterproductive. While everyone acknowledges the devastating impact of Kush on our communities, it is unjust to target innocent individuals or institutions that are actively contributing to the fight. If we are to succeed in curbing drug abuse, we must approach the issue with fairness, integrity, and a clear mind — not through baseless accusations and witch-hunts.
