Following the temporary sealing of the Headquarters of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA) on Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown by the National Revenue Authority (NRA), both entities met on Monday 5th May, 2025 to discuss a sustainable way forward.
The EDSA team led by the Deputy Minister of Energy 1, Edmond Nonie and comprised of the Deputy Director General, James Rogers, Acting Chief Finance Officer, Matthias Abu-Mattia, and DG SL Electricity & Water Regulatory Commission, Dr. Emmanuel Mannah, met with the Commissioner General of NRA, Jeneba J. Bangura and her team including the DCG2, Gerald H. Ganda. They expressed NRA's commitment to compliance and transparency.
The key outcome of the meeting was the understanding that allows the resumption of EDSA operations while ensuring that its financial obligations are met over a structured timeline.
The CG welcomed this understanding, reiterating that the NRA's enforcement actions are aimed at promoting revenue enhancement and accountability rather than implementing punitive measures. With this understanding in place, both institutions can now focus on their essential public services without further disruption.
The dialogue highlights the importance of cooperation in addressing compliance within public institutions, paving the way for enhanced revenue collection, and trust between NRA and tax paying government entities.
