Like all other chiefdoms where traditional agriculture is the main source of livelihood for the people, Sahn Malen Chiefdom, Pujehun district, about ten years ago before SOCFIN Agricultural Company (SAC) decided to establish a multimillion dollar oil palm plantation and processing mill (the largest such investment in West Africa) was a sleepy community.

With the economy largely dependent on revenue from mining, and the government in search of financial partners to help diversify the economy, the establishment of Socfin Agricultural Company in Sahn Malen Chiefdom Pujehun district was a much needed addition in that regard.

Employing directly and indirectly over 12, 000 workers, the Minister of Finance, Jacob Jusu Saffa in the country’s 2019 Budget Statement and Economic and Financial policies statement in the well of Parliament noted that, “…the performance of the external sector improved during the first half of 2018. Total value of exports for the period January to June 2018 is estimated at US$518.8 million.

The sharp increase in exports is accounted for primarily by the export of palm oil by SOCFIN Agricultural Company…”
Very much appreciative of its contribution to the chiefdom’s transformation, Paramount Chief Victor Brima Kebbie and his subjects wholeheartedly support SAC for not only providing them with jobs and incomes but also for fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities in many areas including education in the form of building schools, provision of furniture and learning materials, scholarships, building and furnishing of health facilities, agricultural diversification, provision of microfinance to women, etc.

One picture speaks a thousand words. Below are numerous pictorial evidences of SOCFIN’s contributions to the growth, development and transformation of Sahn Malen Chiefdom:
