In a major boost to the education sector, the National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) has secured approval to invest in the construction of 8,000 student hostels across six university campuses in Sierra Leone.

This revelation was made by NASSIT’s Director of Communications, Mohamed Bangalie, during a recent briefing on the Trust’s operations. He said the project reflects NASSIT’s broader vision to invest in socially responsible ventures that contribute to national development while guaranteeing returns for contributors.

“The hostel project will not only provide decent and affordable accommodation for students but will also support the government’s Free Quality Education initiative by improving learning conditions across campuses,” Bangalie explained.

He further disclosed that NASSIT is currently paying over 32,000 pensioners every month, highlighting that the Trust’s commitment to its contributors remains solid. He applauded President Bio’s decision to increase the minimum pension from NLe25 to NLe250, calling it “a landmark achievement for social justice.”

Bangalie also reaffirmed that by 2025, NASSIT will be fully digitized, offering contributors and pensioners a more efficient, transparent, and accessible service delivery platform.
