The National Revenue Authority (NRA) on Tuesday 30th April, 2024 launched a proactive initiative to foster constructive dialogue and partnership with the media at ShangriLa Conference Hall, Aberdeen Beach in Freetown.

Recognizing the vital role of the media in disseminating information to the public, the NRA seeks to enhance transparency and understanding of its daily operations. In a brief statement, the NRA Commissioner General, Madam Jeneba Bangura, underscored the significance of the work of the media in the daily operations of the Authority on revenue generation for the State.

The Commissioner General avers that she believes in open communication channels, pointing out that the takeaway point on the engagement was to build concrete relationship with the media in order to collaborate effectively in promoting tax education, compliance and economic development.

Madam Jeneba Bangura however cautioned the media to engage more in the positive aspects of the Authority's work in revenue mobilization for the benefit of the citizenry.

President of the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), Ahmed Nasralla, underscored the importance of partnership with the media beyond calling for news conferences and granting adverts for information dissemination to the public.

He called on other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to emulate NRA in forging partnership with the media in a bid to promote good governance in the country.

The NRA Director of Legal and Corporate Services Department, Madam Martina Baindu Egbenda Esq., reiterated that the initiative to engage with the media underscored NRA’s commitment to transparency, accountability and trust in its daily operations.

According to her, the Authority wants to forge a strong partnership that will lay the groundwork for a mutually beneficial relationship between the Authority and the media.
