Leonoil Company popularly known as Leonco has sponsored prostate cancer awareness capacity building for healthcare workers organized by Prostate Cancer Sierra Leone.
This comprehensive training programme held yesterday Wednesday 17th July, 2024 at the Western Area Urban District Health Management Team Conference Room in Freetown aims at enhancing the knowledge and skills of medical professionals, enabling them to provide better diagnoses, treatment and care for prostate cancer patients.
Recognizing the importance of early detection and advanced treatment techniques, Leonco's sponsorship ensures that health workers are equipped with the latest information and best practices in the field.
Leonoil Company’s Operations Manager, Reginald Sawyerr, said Leonoil continues to prioritize resource allocations to medical, education and humanitarian outreach across different communities via their Corporate Social Responsibility (CRS) programmes.
The Operations Manager said this is truly evident with the co-financing of the Burns Unit at the Connaught Teaching Hospital Complex, the immunization of their staff against hepatitis and now the participation on Prostate Cancer capacity building awareness training for healthcare workers.
“As the second most common malignancy in males and the sixth leading cause of cancer mortality in men, research has also shown that most African men in the sub-region still have little or no knowledge of this disease. With your training, we are increasingly convinced that your field outreach will be successful and impactful to our society,” Mr. Sawyerr averred.
He said Leonoil was incorporated in 1994 as a truly indigenous company that had aligned itself with nation-building through the distribution of high quality refined petroleum products to all the sixteen districts in the country.
Mr. Sawyerr disclosed that Leonoil continues to also increase the ease of access to petroleum products through the introduction of cashless transaction platforms and chit systems.
Prostate Cancer Sierra Leone medical expert, Professor Babatunde Duduyemi (Oncology Pathologist), expressed gratitude to Leonoil Company as the sponsor of the prostate cancer capacity building awareness training for healthcare workers.
The Nigerian Professor gave the assurance to continue promoting the company wherever they are as one of their reliable partners in raising awareness of prostate cancer in the country.
Professor Babatunde Duduyemi explained the symptoms that should take a person to the doctor, diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
The medical expert highlighted the role of healthcare professionals including proactive communication; discuss risk factors and screening options with patient; address misconceptions and care amongst others.
Questions and answers, comments, clarifications and distribution of certificates to healthcare participants climaxed the training workshop.
