The High Court Judge Adrian Fisher has announced a revised adjournment date for the high-profile corruption trial involving the Leader and June 24 presidential candidate of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party, Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara and five others.
The trial was originally scheduled for Friday 6th October, 2023, but it will now reconvene on Friday 27th October, 2023.
Justice Adrian Fisher cited pressing court commitments as the reason for the delay. In an official notice, he emphasized that the trial would proceed on a daily basis, including Saturdays if necessary, until its completion.
Justice Fisher made it crystal clear that the court would only entertain further adjournment in exceptional circumstances.
APC’s Samura Kamara, with five co-accused, faces allegations of corruption related to the mismanagement of funds disbursed for the renovation of Sierra Leone’s Chancery Building in New York in the United States of America (USA).
Among the charges against Samura Kamara are misleading the principal and misappropriation of public funds. But he has vehemently denied these allegations, describing them as a smear campaign against his reputation.
All the six accused have denied the charges except for US citizen Jules Sanders Davis, who is yet to appear in court.
The trial has drawn significant attention both nationally and internationally, and observers are closely following its proceedings.
