Fifty-two (52) Members of Parliament of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party will finally take their seats in the august body on Tuesday 31st October, 2026, following its recent three-day peace dialogue with the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) that was successfully facilitated by the African Union (AU), Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and the Commonwealth of Nations.
According to report, the fifty-two elected APC Members of Parliament would have taken the oath of office in the Well of Parliament today Thursday 26th October 2023, but after an emergency meeting yesterday, it was unanimously agreed that the MPs would now go to Parliament next week Tuesday.
The peace dialogue ends the main opposition APC’s stance to not participate in governance at all levels after the party refused to accept the results of the June 24 multitier elections announced by the Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL), citing irregularities and breaches of electoral procedures.
The MPs will therefore take the oath of office next week Tuesday in Parliament to mark an end to their non-participation in governance.
Hon. Abdul Kargbo from Port Loko District, who party sources say is very outspoken, is widely anticipated to be the Minority Leader in Parliament and will be deputized by Hon. Abdul Karim Kamara (AKK).
Many concerned Sierra Leoneans believe the participation of APC in governance and His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s nationwide address on dialogue, unity and peace on Tuesday 24th October, 2023 manifest the speedy implementation of the communique signed by the GoSL and the APC at the peace dialogue held at the Bintumani Hotel Ballroom, Aberdeen in Freetown.
The peace dialogue was facilitated by the international community following request from Sierra Leone’s Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC).
