The Chief Immigration Officer, Hon. Alusine Kanneh, has disclosed that some of the reforms he is instituting at the Immigration Department include establishing immigration offices in the provincial headquarters of Bo, Kenema and Makeni for people to apply for passports instead of travelling to Freetown.

Speaking recenyly at the weekly press conference in Freetown, Hon. Alusine Kanneh disclosed that post offices in the regions will be reactivated to host the passport offices, adding that they are already in talks with the Sierra Leone Postal Services (SALPOST) to collaborate on how those in the regions will get their passports after application.

On the international stage, the CIO also disclosed that there would soon be offices in Washington DC in the United States of America (USA)and London in England for the processing of passports and Sierra Leoneans living in those places would not need to go to the Embassy or High Commission or use proxies.
According to Hon. Alusine Kanneh, “When I took over the Immigration Department, there was a problem of overcrowding, mostly caused by poor accommodation, and unauthorized volunteers who were engaged in unscrupulous activities. That is now a thing of the past.”
