Sierra Leone Female Parliamentary Caucus (SLEFPAC) with support from Orange Sierra Leone yesterday Thursday 14th March, 2024 observed Orange Day Celebration and the inauguration of their Executive Members on the theme “Invest in Women: Amplifying Women’s Political Agenda in Parliament” in commemoration of the International Women’s at Parliament Building, Tower Hill in Freetown.
Giving the welcome address, SLEFPAC President, Hon. Nenneh Lebbie, expressed gratitude for the celebration in support of one course, which is to promote gender equality in advancing women’s rights and empowerment.
She acknowledged the spectacular support of Orange (SL) as a partner that is always there to answer their calls to promote women’s empowerment and gender equality.

According to the female MP, “Today marks the celebration of our Orange Day, a global initiative that aims to raise awareness on violence against women, promote gender equality and women’s empowerment. As Members of SLEFPAC, we choose this event as a platform to celebrate our achievements, opportunities and challenges which define our role in governance, present our roadmap for 2024, inauguration of SLEFPAC Executive Members and networking, hence the purpose of the gathering.”
The Female Parliamentary Caucus President also acknowledged the enormous work of her predecessor, Hon. Veronica Kadie Sesay in taking the caucus to another level.
Hon. Nenneh Lebbie lauded His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio and his wife, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, and the leadership of Parliament for their relentless efforts in women’s empowerment by advancing women’s political agenda, adding that the caucus can now boast of forty-two (42) female Members of Parliament attaining a total of 30.4% representations in Parliament.
The General Secretary of Orange Sierra Leone, Danetta Young, applauded the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) for its unwavering commitment to women’s empowerment and the implementation of legislations such as Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment ACT 2022 that have brought them closer to achieving Gender Empowerment.
She emphasized that the government has played an important role in creating the enabling environment with the implementation of laws that support women’s economic empowerment that contributes to society.
The General Secretary also lauded the effort of the Female Caucus in Parliament for championing the passing of Gender Bills that empower women and promote Gender Equality.
According to the scribe, “When we invest in women, we invest in the future. Orange Company has up to 30% of women staff strength. It is important to note that Gender Equality cannot be achieved over night and we should therefore thank the Female Caucus for being in the forefront in the fight to create more equitable society for all. The achievement of SLEFPAC will serve as an aspiration to women.”
