On the eve of President Julius Maada Bio’s inauguration, mysterious fire has gutted the lounge of the country’s International Airport, as African presidents, members of the diplomatic corps and international artists jet in to grace the ceremony. An act, many say was not unconnected to sabotage.

In less than 24 hours to the inauguration, unexplained and bizarre fire broke out at the presidential lounge of the Freetown International Airport where foreign presidents and members of the diplomatic corps should congregate at the airport for security reasons for shuttling to their final destination.

The timing of the flames is being met with mixed feelings by the general public who are now calling on president Bio to immediately sack the entire management of the airport as police investigation into the cause of the inferno continues. Many attribute the failure of some invited heads and dignitaries failing to come for the inauguration to the unexplained fire at the Lungi airport.

Inhabitants, irrespective of political affiliations said such unpatriotic act is not only a national disgrace to the country, but also seeks to portray negative depiction that the country is not safe to accommodate foreign presidents. This, they say, has the propensity to undermine the development of the country under the President Bio’s “New Direction”

Meanwhile, the government has assured all Sierra Leoneans and invited guests that everything is under control and that the airport is safe and secure to accommodate flights from far and wide, as immediate steps have been taken, including the designation of an alternative VIP lounge to ensure the safety and comfort of our dignitaries arriving for the inauguration ceremony.
