Police Boss: IG Richard Moigbeh

The continued tenure of Dr Richard Moigbeh as Inspector General of Police hangs in the balance. Report reaching this medium suggests that President Julius Maada Bio would name a new police boss, in line with his ‘New Direction’ governance policy that prioritizes discipline, law and order.

Findings revealed that the decision to relieve him from office cannot be unconnected with his role in the just concluded 2018 general election; especially with regards the incident when police officers without warrant stormed the Sierra Leone People’s Party tally centre in Goderich during the first round of the election.

Furthermore, there were other instances of the police acting unprofessionally against supporters of the now ruling SLPP when in opposition with little or no action taken by IG Moigbeh, coupled with his alleged utterances in the hotly debated 100.3% reached at by the National Electoral Commission in the March 7 general elections that was keenly contested by the then ruling APC party.

Meanwhile, a lot of concern has been raised within the police force over the way and manner senior personnel were recently transferred, allegedly at the prerogative of AIG Theophilus Sennesie in charge of Human Resources Management office without reference to senior bosses.

Investigation revealed that the rapid transfers of senior personnel from one unit to another in a weekly basis cannot be unconnected with political interference as some officers holding higher offices supposed to be under the command of higher rank officers.

Suggestion of outside influence influencing the recent transfers is that of AIG Khaili who was initially transferred from Commander Freetown West to Commander Eastern Region but was suddenly withdrawn from there and now is the Head of OSD.

Meanwhile, when attempts were made by this press to get some officials of the Police Management Board to comment on the above, we were met with stony looks and sealed lips.
