Four people purporting to be staff of the Electricity Distribution and Supply Authority (EDSA), Mohamed Bah, Augustine Brown, Mohamed Kargbo and Mohamed Lamin Suma who is said to be the ring leader falsely pretending to be part of the Technical Audit Section that has the mandate to connect and disconnect illegal prepaid meters have been apprehended.

The four accused were arrested by a team of Technical EDSA personnel in the Western area of Congo Town and Bolling Street where the ring leader Mohamed Lamin Suma and his team harassed households and residences falsely collecting monies for prepaid meters, as well as, accusing people of not using the right tariff. They are being investigated by the Criminal Investigations Department.

According to one of the Technical Audit Section staff, Superintendent II, Christian Pessima, explained that on 10th May 2018, the Technical Section received reports of the four impersonators raiding residents of Bolling Street in Kingtom and Congo Town disconnecting meters and collecting huge sum of monies from people. They were arrested with one celled EDSA prepaid meter and meter cards.

He said this act by impersonators has been causing serious effect in their operations as they usually hang around the electricity building to falsely track customers and identified names of officials who have no business with them.

Making his remarks over the fake EDSA workers, Public Relations Officer, Sahr Nepoh, said the four criminals had never been staff of the institution.
Meanwhile, he noted that, some EDSA customers are also defaulters because they refused to go through the legal channel and concluded that the impersonators will face the full force of the law.
