Finance and Energy Ministers signed a two year Utility grid infrastructure and electricity supply Agreement with Karpowership ship on Monday 11th June 2018 in Freetown.

The Turkish power ship was brought last year by the previous government in order to salvage the challenges faced by EDSA (Electricity Distribution and Supply Agency) and EGTC(Electricity Generation and Transmission Company) every dry season. It was brought to supply a 30 mega watt power as a start which EDSA would pay for as supplied. The current government however thought it prudent to renegotiate with the power ship owners at which they reach an agreement to dropp both the tariff and the number of years (5 down to 2 years) to start with.

Before the signing, the Minister of Energy, Alhaji Kanja Sesay said the ship has been on a test run for the past one week before the technical team gave the go ahead to sign the agreement. He therefore hopes that the power ship would perform as expected without outages.

The Finance Minister, Mr. Jacob Jusu Saffa expressed that the performance of the power ship would in no doubt strengthen the bilateral relationship between Sierra Leone and Turkey. Mr.

Cyril Grant, Project Manager for Bumbuna 2 gave an overview of the agreement. In attendance also were the Turkish Ambassador to Sierra Leone, EDSA Chairman, the Deputy Minister of Energy and Dr. Taylor who gave the vote of thanks.
