The Satellite has been awarded as the Best Newspaper of the Year 2024 while its Proprietor/Managing Editor, Ibrahim Babatunde Sesay, was also awarded as the Best Publisher of the Year 2024 during the National Heroes’ Awards organized in Freetown by the Heroes Media Group on Saturday 10th May, 2025.

Speaking to the Managing Editor, Ibrahim Babatunde Sesay, he averred that the awards did not come as a surprise to him and the entire staff because The Satellite is the most circulated newspaper nationwide.

“I believe we deserve the two prestigious awards because we are arguably the fastest and best-selling newspaper in the country,” the Managing Editor said, adding, “Since its inception nearly fifteen years ago, The Satellite Newspaper has dominated the market of sports because of its presentation and neatness.”

Babatunde furthered that the newspaper has been very consistent over the past decade with top-notch presentations, noting that even the newspaper vendors can testify that we deserve the two awards, given our dominance on the newsstand as the best-selling newspaper.

The Managing Editor also spoke about the huge investment in the newspaper and how he has professionally managed it to become one of the leading newspapers in the country.

It could be recalled that this is not the first time The Satellite Newspaper has bagged prestigious awards in its almost fifteen years of existence. The Sierra Leone News Vendors Association awarded The Satellite as the Fastest Selling Newspaper from 2012 to 2015, respectively. The Diaspora Focus Award also awarded the paper as the Highest Selling Newspaper in the country.
