During the engagement, the Sonatel Group CEO outlined plans to intensify the rollout of high-speed mobile internet across the country and to continue strengthening network capacity and resilience.
He disclosed that Sonatel’s subsidiary, Orange Sierra Leone, will prioritise:

Mr. BA’s visit to Freetown comes ahead of the official inauguration of Orange Sierra Leone’s second data centre in Bo, a strategic investment designed to reinforce the country’s digital infrastructure backbone. The new facility is expected to improve network reliability, enhance service resilience and provide a stronger platform for future digital services.
Highlighting Sierra Leone’s importance within the Sonatel ecosystem, Mr. BA noted that all Orange Sierra Leone network macro sites currently deliver 4G services.
He said the Group is stepping up efforts to extend 4G to additional districts and hard-to-reach communities, with the aim of ensuring more people can access fast, reliable mobile internet.
“Our investments are focused on building robust, future-ready infrastructure that can support education, entrepreneurship, public service delivery and broader economic growth,” he stated.
Mr. BA also underscored Orange and Sonatel’s commitment to digital inclusion, pointing out that Orange Sierra Leone has already established seven digital schools across the country. He indicated that the company plans to scale up additional technology-driven initiatives to empower young people, students and innovators. He further expressed appreciation to President Bio for his consistent support to the telecommunications sector and for fostering an enabling environment for investment.
In his remarks, President Julius Maada Bio welcomed the Sonatel delegation and commended Sonatel and Orange Group and Orange Sierra Leone for their critical role in advancing Sierra Leone’s digital and economic progress. He stressed that telecommunications is an engine of development and that reliable, affordable communication services are essential for the country to remain competitive and integrated in the modern global economy.
