The current development in the main opposition All People's Congress (APC) concerning the eligibility of Sheikh Alhaji Mohamed Omodu Kamara, aka Jagaban, to contest for the party's flagbearer position has frustrated his numerous supporters across the country.
The question of Jagaban's eligibility arose after the APC National Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya Esq. recently confirmed publicly that Jagaban was eligible to contest for the party's flagbearer position. The party scribe further claimed that the APC has completed a thorough verification of Jagaban's membership status, adding that Jagaban submitted documents proving his party membership, which were checked against the APC's official records.
Following Lansana Dumbuya's confirmation that Jagaban was eligible to contest for the APC's flagbearer position, members of the party hierarchy who were not comfortable with the scribe's announcement took the matter to the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) to look into it.
PPRC has since officially instructed Lansana Dumbuya Esq. to provide documents of all APC flagbearer claspirants, including their dates of applications, application papers, and other relevant documents for thorough investigation or verification.
While PPRC is investigating the eligibility of all APC flagbearer aspirants, the social media is currently awash with Jagaban's Certificate of Registration.
The Certificate of Registration states, among other things, that MOHAMED OMODU KAMARA was duly registered under the APC as a PATRON on 06 May 2014. The certificate was signed by Lansana Dumbuya as National Secretary General and Hon. Minkailu Mansaray as National Chairman.
Highly placed party sources suggest Jahaban may not have been officially registered in 2014, potentially leading to fraud charges. This allegation strikes at the internal legitimacy and could spark a major crisis within the opposition leadership structure.
