Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Timothy Musa Kabba, is at present in Washington DC in the United States terms and conditions for the lifting of the U. S. visa ban on Sierra Leonean nationals.
In accordance with the presidential proclamation, the United States Embassy in Freetown in December 2025 suspended the issuance of tourism, business, student, and exchange visitor nonimmigration visas to nationals of Sierra Leone; and can only issue immigrant visas for immediate family members of U.S. citizens or adopted to nationals of Sierra Leone. The proclamation did not revoke existing visas.
According to reliable reports, the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) has met all the terms and conditions set by the U. S. Government for the visa ban to be lifted, including the acceptance of Sierra Leonean deportees from the U.S., complying with U. S. policy and its immigration laws, amongst others.
The Foreign Affairs Minister Timothy M. Kabba has engaged with the U. S. Secretary of State, Marco Rabio to discuss a permanent solution to end the U. S. visa ban on Sierra Leonean nationals.
The Minister is also expected to meet with other senior U. S. Government officials for the final negotiations before he would return to Sierra Leone.
It is expected that at any time from now, the GoSL will communicate to the nation with a hopeful outcome on the matter.
