Superintendent Brima Kamara confirmed yesterday Tuesday, July 17th 2018, that Edmond Abu, Director of Native Consortium was interrogated at the Central Police Station for staging an unauthorized demonstration.

Reports are that, Edmond Abu was “arrested” by police at St John leading a peaceful protest against the government's decision to raise the cost of fuel and other petroleum products. But Supt. Kamara denied that Edmond was arrested, explaining that, the civil rights activist was only brought in for questioning.

Edmond Abu has been very vocal about the sudden increase in the price of fuel and other petroleum products since the government of President Maada Bio announced a sudden increase last week, to the dismay of the majority of Sierra Leoneans.

Meanwhile, other civil society organizations calling on President Bio to ensure we live in a free society devoid of political intimidation and the violation of human rights called for Edmond Abu’s release.
