The tug-of-war between world football governing body FIFA on behalf of the continued stay of the current Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) and the country’s Anti-Corruption Commission has taken a new twist.

Reportedly, FIFA has written a letter to the ACC through the Office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice demanding that ACC lifts its ban on the Isha Johanssen SLFA executive from continuing in office.

Few weeks ago, the ACC boss, Francis Ben Kaifala, wrote a letter to the Minister of Sports ordering him to within one week ensure that SLFA President, IshaJohansen and SLFA Secretary General, Chris Kamara who have been charged with corruption related offences not to continue to man the affairs of the SLFA until their cases are heard.

ACC’s action caused apprehension in the nation, as many people feared that FIFA would ban the country from all international football activities.

Undeterred, ACC’s Francis Kaifala maintained that any attempt by FIFA to countermand his commission’s order would undermine the fight against corruption in the country. He thus reiterated that the Commission’s order barring Isha and Chris Kamara to stay out of office stayed.

To show that ACC meant business, after the seven days when the Minister was supposed to have enforced the Commission’s order, ACC officials raided the home of Chris Kamara and demanded that he release the Association’s password to the caretaker executive that had been named.

Asked by journalists if he had through the Attorney General’s office received a letter from FIFA asking him to revoke its suspension order on Isha and Chris Kamara, he is reported to have asked: “What letter?”

Meanwhile, it is known that Chris Kamara is in compliance with the ACC ban from office whilst Isha has since been out of the country.
