The unbending Anti-Corruption Commission commissioner, Francis Ben Kaifala, has vehemently affirmed that, the Commission’s stance on the Sierra Leone Football Association, (SLFA) President, Isha Johansen and Secretary General, Christian Kamara remains unchanged, despite FIFA ban.

Isha Johansen and Chris Kamara were recently ordered by the Commissioner, Francis Ben Kaifala to step aside whilst they face corruption charges brought against them by the Commission, failing which, will face additional charges of “obstruction”

The duo are also barred from entering into their respective offices pending outcome of the investigation, since they are no exception to the country’s law, which emphatically states that, any public official under ACC indictment must vacate his/her office pending investigation.

The suspension comes after FIFA warning to reinstate these alleged corrupt officials was out-rightly rejected by ACC. According to FIFA, the ban will continue indefinitely until Isha Johanssen and Christian Kamara are reinstated and granted full access to their respective offices.

Additionally, the scheduled match between Sierra Leone and Ghana in the ongoing 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier would be cancelled.

Responding to the letter, Kaifala was seemingly quoted as saying “FIFA has to reposition itself to fit into the dynamic paradigm of its member associations’ countries tackling corruption on its spinal cord to deal it a debilitating blow at once. He added, “FIFA is no example in that regard. Sierra Leone is on the move and can’t be held down any longer!” Ben tweeted.

Notwithstanding, many football loving fans at home and abroad have welcomed the ban, stating that, if that’s the prize the country should pay for sanity to be restored in the game, they are fully prepared for it, as the country’s football has been in a very appalling state over the years.

“It is better we face the ban and get Isha Johanssen and Chris Kamara who have contributed hugely to the deterioration of the country’s football out, than continue maintaining them with no hope of restructuring the game,” they said.

They said Ghana, Nigerian have been slammed similar ban, in their firmness to holistically restructure their football associations when they were marred with similar debacle. “Now both countries are forces to reckon with in African football, and the sub region in particular” they proudly stated

Meanwhile, Isha Johansen whose four year term in office ended early August 2017, has against the wish of the country’s football confederation stubbornly refused to summon a national congress that will elect a new SLFA executive body.
