As negligence of duty is one of the serious crimes for officers standing trial at the Complaints Discipline Internal Investigation Department (CDIID), suspended Local Unit Commander of Central Police Station.

Chief Superintendent Francis Hazely, Support Officer Superintendent Salifu Conteh and five others may be dismissed from the force.

The LUC and six others were given indefinite suspension by the Executive Management Board of the SLP pending investigation following fierce riot at Wallace Johnson Street around the Central Police Division vicinity that saw one vehicle burnt down and several people injured with no arrest effected.

Many perceived the incident as deadly and blamed the Central Police Division for not responding swiftly to crack down on the gang of armed robbers who engaged in a daylight robbery within the vicinity of a Class ‘A’ Division.

Had it not been for the intervention of another division personnel, it could have been disastrous for innocent citizens residence or doing business around the riot scene.

A police officer attached to CDIID who preferred anonymity revealed that negligence of duty, divulging information to any unauthorized matter connected with the force, disobedience of superior and indiscipline most time are tantamount to dismissal from the SLP.

According to him, every police officer took an oath to protect lives and properties and therefore abandoning that duty without tangible reasons is a serious crime in the force.
