Following the very undignified behavior of a certain group of lawless elements in Makeni on the day the ACC was to interview former president Koroma that caused the Sierra Leone Police extreme embarrassment, a visibly angry Inspector General of Police, Ambrose Sovula has told this press that the police high command has declared that henceforth, such utter contempt and disregard for law and order and the police would not be tolerated.

The police chief asserted that the Force for Good would not stand by idle and allow anybody or any group of persons to threaten the stability of the hard won peace that the country enjoys.

It can be recalled that the Thursday incident was the second in recent months that politically motivated youths took to the streets to challenge the police.

In the first occurrence, youth violence led to the destruction of public properties and loss of life.

IG Sovula maintained that the police as custodians of law and order charged with protecting lives of properties of all resident in the country will now take a very robust non-compromising attitude towards lawlessness anywhere it happens in the country.

The country’s chief law enforcer meanwhile reminded the general populace that a sate of health emergency is still in existence which amongst other things prohibits the gathering of large crowds of people as a way of helping to curtail the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic in the country.

IG Sovula also encouraged youths to understand that youth as citizens are supposed to help the law enforcement agencies to protect lives and properties. He advised them not to allow themselves to be used by ill-motivated people that mean no good for them as youths as well as the country by inciting them to engage in acts of lawlessness and violence.

No one is above the law, IG Sovula said, adding that the law is no respecter of people that have no respect for the constituted laws of the land. Violators, he said, should be prepared to face the full force of the law.
