The Electoral Commission of Sierra Leone (ECSL) has in a press release dated Tuesday 2nd August, 2022 disclosed that the Commission has set up a Boundary Delimitation Technical Committee with a clearly defined terms of reference to undertake boundary delimitation exercise nationwide.


According to the release, the ECSL will collaborate with Statistics Sierra Leone (Stats SL) for technical and operational assistance in providing population statistics data, and expertise to draw electoral constituency and ward boundaries using geographic information systems technology.

It furthered that the Commission would conduct series of nationwide public consultations and engagements during the constituency and ward boundary delimitation activities, as well as to submit the constituency and ward boundary delimitation report to Parliament for approval as enshrined in Act No.6 of the 1991 Constitution.

The ECSL said after Parliamentary approval, they will conduct nationwide awareness raising campaign on the allocation of seats, the meters and bounds description of the constituencies and wards in the 16 electoral districts. The Commission however cited Section 38 of Act No.6 of the 1991 Constitution and other Provisions, such as the Constitutional Instrument (Amendment) No.2 of 2008; the Wards (Boundary Delimitation) Regulations 2008; the Public Elections Act 2012; the Local Government Act 2004; the Provinces (Amendment) Act 2017, and the Eight Establishment Orders 2017, which harp on boundary delimitation.The ECSL said they will communicate to stakeholders about the timelines on the boundary delimitation activities in due course.

Meanwhile, the Voters Registration will commence on Saturday 3rd September and ends on Tuesday 4th October, 2022 respectively.
