His Excellency President Brig. (Rtd) Dr. Julius Maada Bio will today Thursday 15th June, 2023 travel to the Eastern Region headquarters of Kenema City in his quest to seal his support in the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) strongholds during his final campaign in the region.
President Bio is expected to address the people of Kenema District on that day with his campaign messages of prosperity and hope over fear before he will proceed to neighbouring Kailahun District on Friday 16th June.
The President will make a stopover at Gbalahun in Gbela Section, Luawa Chiefdom, which is seven miles away from Kailahun Town, where he will formally launch the 17 kilometer Kailahun-Buedu Highway – the phase three of Kenema-Koindu Highway that was initiated by the late erstwhile President Alhaji Ahmad Tejan Kabbah of blessed memory.
President Bio will then travel further to Koindu on the Guinea-Liberia borders to address a town hall meeting before he will return to Kailahun Town for a massive town hall meeting that will attract district stakeholders and thousands of party members and supporters to restate their commitment to a ‘no runoff’ in the June 24 presidential poll.
On Saturday 17th June, President Bio will travel directly to diamond-rich Tongo Fields in the Lower Bambara Chiefdom, Kenema District, where he will also address a town hall meeting before he will proceed to Koidu City in Kono District on the same day to address the people, including stakeholders and supporters in a town hall meeting.
The much resilient and determined President Bio will finally wrap up his campaign in the Southeast Region on Sunday in Moyamba Town, where he will switch on electricity supply in the township following the near completion of the 7Targeted Districts Electrification Project that benefited six other district headquarters - Kabala, Kambia, Kailahun, Pujehun, Mattru Jong and Bonthe Island respectively. The project was 100% funded by taxpayers’ money.
The Moyamba Township and its surroundings can now boast of electricity supply after forty (40) years in perpetual darkness.
