His Excellency President Brig. (Rtd) Dr. Julius Maada Wonnie Bio made history in Sierra Leone on Tuesday 27th June, 2023 as the first Head of State to be sworn in three times as military and democratic leader.

President Julius Maada Bio, who won the Saturday 24th June, 2023 presidential election by 56% to avoid a runoff, was sworn in at State House in Freetown just after he was pronounced winner by the National Returning Officer, Mohamed Konneh, at the Bintumani Hotel in Aberdeen.

Brig. (Rtd) Julius Maada Bio was first sworn in as Head of State of the Republic of Sierra Leone following a palace coup in late December 1995 that the then Chairman of NPRC junta and Head of State, Valentine Esegrebo
Melvin Strasser. The conqueror and victor was also sworn for the second time as a democratic President and Head of State after he won the March 2018 presidential runoff.

President Bio therefore joined the ranks of Olusegun Okekere Obasanjo, Alhaji Muhammad Buhari and Lansana Conte who were sworn in as Military Heads of State and twice as democratic Heads of State.
