Months before the 24th June 2023 General Elections, the grassroots of the Sierra Leone Peoples’ Party (SLPP) were disunited and disgruntled.

 They were not happy with most of the party hierarchies because throughout the first term of President Julius Maada Wonie Bio, the grassroots of the party were treated badly by some of the appointees. This led to a huge communication gap between the party hierarchies and the grassroots .

As a result of the above, the party was in dying need of a unifier; a person or an organisation within the party that could unite the SLPP supporters and secure a huge support in the Western Region for His Excellency (HE) President Julius Maada Bio and Vice President (VP) Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh. There came The Green Foundation (TGF)!

TGF being a body that works towards unifying the SLPP, building and maintaining a good relationship between the grassroots and party hierarchies so that the SLPP can win the 24th June 2023 General Elections and subsequent general elections started working towards achieving its ultimate goals.

Months before the 24th June 2023 General Elections, TGF team started visiting every community in the Western Area to tell the loving supporters of the SLPP the reasons why they should unite, love, forgive, and live in peace with each other. TGF team pleaded with the grassroots to forgive the party hierarchies, let bygone be bygone, and help President Maada Bio and VP Juldeh Jalloh secure the votes needed in the Western Region to win at first ballot.

Furthermore, In order to ensure that the gospel of love, peace, forgiveness, and unity reach the four corners of every community in the Western Region, resonate with party supporters, and also mobilise and bring in a huge number of votes for the party, TGF incorporated into the foundation over 450 party supporters as coordinators, and over 200 SLPP support groups to get the job done.

After incorporating into the foundation over 450 coordinators and over 200 support groups, TGF ensured that the coordinators and support groups were supported with every logistics needed to unite our party supporters and champion the door to door campaign in the region. Before and during the campaign period, TGF secretariat, its coordinators and support groups intensified the door to door campaign in every corner of the region.

After succeeded in uniting the SLPP supporters in the Western Area and marketing the manifesto (plans) of the SLPP to citizens living in the region, on polling day, the foundation made sure that the votes of the SLPP were protected at all cost.

On polling day, Incentives for top up and transportation were given to the coordinators of the foundation. These incentives were used to report to TGF secretariat both peaceful and chaotic atmosphere at polling stations and dwelling communities in the region. Situations that needed the immediate intervention of the security personnel (the military and police forces) were timely communicated to the necessary bodies responsible for swift actions. Also, TGF secretariat members were divided into teams and charged with the responsibility to do a spot check at every polling station in the region to ensure the complete security of the SLPP’s votes.

The huge number of votes that the SLPP got from the Western Region in the 24th June 2023 General Elections is a clear reflection of the great job done by The Green Foundation. All of these wouldn’t have been possible without the help of the VIce President, Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, the Chairman of TGF, Mr. Ibrahim Jalloh popularly known as AKJ, his hardworking team, and all well-wishing party supporters in the region.
