The Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) of the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), Lieutenant-General Peter K. Lavahun, has admonished his personnel in the name of God to stay away from politics and remain calm and do their normal work as soldiers, men and women of the RSLAF.
The CDS made the admonition in a general meeting with his personnel following the numerous arrests of and detention of certain individuals suspected of involving in a plot to undermine State security.
The Army Boss therefore convened the meeting to dispel rumour mongering in corners about the arrests of the military officers and other ranks and the allegations of regional and tribal sentiments attached to those arrest.
He told his personnel that because of the rumours doing the rounds in corners, he called the meeting for them to understand what was happening so that they would not be brainwashed or perhaps take for granted whatever they see or hear on social media where he said someone has the right to post whatever tgry feel like posting.
Explaining the arrests of RSLAF personnel, Lt.-Gen. Lavahun disclosed that about six military officers and five other ranks were arrested based on intelligency and credible evidence, compelling ones against them.
He furthered that in this new media age, whenever something is involved the RSLA, people will politicize it along regional and tribal lines.
The CDS however hastily submitted that what happend in the arrests of the military officers and other ranks has no regional or tribal attachment, while he appealed to his personnel to pray that those officers apprehended would not implicate them as the only possible reason for one's arrest.
The Army Boss disclosed that three more arrests have been made in Kabala where one of the military officers under arrest used to organize meeting, adding that a few other police officers and civilians including the owner of the house where the meetings were held.
"Some are in hiding and how long will they be in hiding?" CDS Lavahun queried.
He admonished: "When you are working with people, they are your people and your business is guidance. So I'll therefore advise you to remain calm and do our normal jobs. Our business is to maintain peace and reflect on where we came from."
