Orange Money - the biggest and widest mobile digital financial service in Sierra Leone - in partnership with the oil marketing company CONEX on Friday 18th August, 2023 launched ‘Pay with Orange Money’ at the Conex Fuel Station at Brookfields, Freetown.
The launch of the new customer facility brought most of the employees of the oil marketing company together to have better understanding of the new electronic payment via Orange Money for the company’s service to its valued customers. Speaking at the launch, the Chief Executive Officer of Orange Money, David Mansaray, was excited about the partnership with Conex and underscored Orange Money’s goal of financial digitization.
The CEO disclosed that their key vision is for Sierra Leone to transition into a cashless society, reserving physical cash for extreme situations only. He said the E-Payment via Orange Money will enhance financial inclusion, transparency and accountability.
According to David Mansaray, it is also a personal experience of needing fuel without physical cash, which triggered the partnership with Conex to address such challenges. He furthered that they would be extending Conex’s sales hours beyond 9:00p.m., exclusively accepting Orange Money to minimize night-time cash handling risks to ensure the safety of their customers.
CEO of Conex, Avrajit Kar, underscored the significance of the partnership with Orange Money, pointing out the convenience of using Orange Money for payments at Conex fuel stations nationwide.
He said Orange Money means of payment is the right platform that can provide transparency and accountability in the payment process.
Head of Marketing, Partnership and Strategy, Orange Money, Abibatu Baxter, gave details of how to utilize the new facility on both smartphone and local phone. According to her, smartphone users can download the Orange Money App and scan the QR code, while local phone users can dial #144# and select option 4 for easy access to the service.
The official launch by the CEOs of Orange Money and Conex was climaxed with a promotion introduced, giving Orange Money customers a chance to win one hundred liters of fuel for purchases made at Conex stations until the end of August.
