The main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) elected Members of Parliament in a rush meeting in Freetown yesterday expressed their dissatisfaction with the stance of their party to boycott State governance at all levels until certain concerns were addressed.

According to report, most of the fifty-one (51) elected MPs vowed to take their seats in Parliament when the august body resumes sittings early October, 2023.

The APC elected MPs, who have not yet taken their seats in Parliament after nineteen (19) sittings, are in serious dilemma as to whether to stand by the stance of their party or to represent their people who elected them to Parliament.

Majority of the elected MPs are also under intense pressure from their constituents, families and friends to take their seats in Parliament instead of losing their seats after thirty (30) sittings given the resources they poured into their campaigns for the June 24 multitier elections.

Whether the elected MPs will adhere to the party stance or will make good of their threats to defy their party leadership is the one-million-dollar question on the lips of many concerned Sierra Leoneans. It could be recalled that following the announcement of the June 24 multitier election results by the Electoral Commission for

Sierra Leone (ECSL), the leadership of the main opposition APC decided to boycott State governance on the grounds that the elections were rigged and therefore raised concerns to be addressed before their elected MPs, Mayors/Chairpersons and Councillors would take their seats in Parliament and Councils. Two APC elected MPs, who have defied the stance of their party, have taken theior seats in Parliament albeit the party leadership has summoned them for anti-party activities.

Meanwhile, the National Advisory Committee (NAC), the second highest decision-making body of the party after the National Delegates Conference, has reportedly summoned an emergency meeting today Friday 29th September, 2023, to take pertinent decisions regarding the current political impasse in the country.
