Former standard-bearer of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) party, Dr. Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara, yesterday Tuesday 3rd October, 2023 attempted to address the seeming post-election division when he told the press conference he organized that he looks forward to the dialogue with His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio.

Dr. Samura Kamara informed everybody that the dialogue, with international mediation, and with firm approval by our party leadership, was the key product of his short interaction with President Bio, and which was considered by both of them as the most peaceful recourse to resolve the existing political impasse, while bringing back sanity and confidence to all their people.

The erstwhile APC presidential candidate assured his supporters that they are always on his mind; in his prayers; and in his plans, to build back a stable, peaceful, united and prosperous nation.

Dr. Samura Kamara also addressed concerns raised by members of his party, who claimed to have voted for him in the June 24 elections, and were now threatening his life as their former flag bearer.

He disclosed that the dialogue was meant to give peace and diplomacy a chance in resolving an impasse that can only heighten the existing political tensions, leading very likely to continuing lethal violence and political intimidation.

“Most importantly, the dialogue is expected to also help us to unravel the truth in a peaceful manner …indeed the dialogue offers a unique opportunity for Sierra Leone to right the wrongs,” Dr. Samura Kamara averred.

Ahead of his press conference, which was apparently meant to dismiss the fact that the APC was already divided into factions with different interests, some aggrieved party members on social media had referred to Dr. Samura Kamara as a traitor, accusing him of taking part in secret meetings and probably agreeing with President Maada Bio on certain conditions in the name of dialogue and peace.

Some hardliners in the APC think Dr. Samura Kamara should be treated the same way as Hon. Mohamed Bangura, the Acting APC Leader in Parliament, and

Hon. Alfred Ayodele Johnson, who defied the party’s stance to boycott State governance.
The former APC Chairman of the Interim Transitional Governance Committee, Alfred Peter Conteh, has been very vocal about the actions of the current party leadership. He has argued in support of Samura Kamara’s new stance that boycotting the governance of the country as a way of challenging the outcome of the June 24 multitier elections would destroy the purpose for which the party exists.
He warned that boycotting the governance of the country as a way of challenging the outcome of the June 24 elections would destroy the party’s polit1icval existence.
“We’ll not allow unpatriotic members of the APC to destroy our party’s political existence,” Alfred Peter Conteh twitted.
