The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has disclosed summary of the FY 2024 budget to the tune of Le89, 210, 054 (Eighty-nine Million Two Hundred and Ten Thousand, Fifty-four Leones) new notes or Le89, 210, 054, 000.00 (Eighty-nine Billion, Two Hundred and Ten Million, and Fifty-four Thousand Leones) old notes to aid its activities for the effective fight against corruption in the country.

The disclosure was made by the ACC Deputy Commissioner, Augustine Ngobie, at the ongoing budget hearings on Tuesday 10th October, 2023 held at the Ministry of Finance conference room, Treasury Building on George Street, Freetown.

The ACC Deputy Commissioner reminded the committee that the anti-graft agency was established in 2000 as an independent institution to lead in the fight against and control of corruption through prevention, investigation, prosecution and public education.

Mr. Augustine Ngobie said the Commission is working in partnership with other bodies to build a corrupt-free Sierra Leone through empowerment, enforcement and compliance with the rule of law.

He assured of attaining the vision of the Commission - “A corruption free Sierra Leone which ensures that the socio-economic needs of its citizens are met” - through prevention, investigation, prosecution and punishment of corruption and corrupt practices.

The Deputy Commissioner also dilated on some of the high-profile cases they have successfully investigated in 2023, including the Audit Report investigation that led to the recovery of billions of Leones and misappropriation of public funds of Le600, 000 paid by the Management of Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) to purported staff for services he did not do.

Mr. Ngobie highlighted summary of their planned activities and key deliverables for 2024, which include the implementation of systems review recommendations in at least three MDAs, Anti-Corruption Policy in at least three MDAs, review and develop Service Charter for five MDAs, among others.
