With the departure of erstwhile Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Honourable Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu from the helm of the 6th Parliament of the Republic of Sierra Leone, the race for a new Speaker heats up.

Reports suggest that Hon. Sengepor Solomon Thomas, the current Deputy Speaker, is poised to emerge as the successor.

However, another formidable contender in the spotlight is Hon. Dr. Sidi Mohamed Tunis, the erstwhile Speaker of ECOWAS Parliament. Tunis brings a wealth of experience and a reputation for exemplary leadership, positioning him as a frontrunner for the esteemed role in Parliament.

Earlier last week, the Speaker of Parliament, Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu, tendered his resignation to His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio, citing illness as the reason.

Reports indicate that the consultation process to decide the next Speaker has concluded, with the decision now firmly in place. As anticipation mounts, the nation awaits the official announcement regarding the new Leader of Parliament.

Meanwhile, Parliament has scheduled Tuesday 30th April, 2024 for the election of a new Speaker of Parliament to replace Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu.
