The Inspector General of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), William Fayia Sellu, has averred that according to recent crime-related investigations, crime levels in Sierra Leone are considerably lower compared to those in other countries in the region. Thursday, when the French Ambassador to Sierra Leone, His Excellency Luc Briard, paid a courtesy call on him at the Police Headquarters on George Street, Freetown.

According to confirmed report, the purpose of the engagement was to enhance collaboration between the French Government and the hierarchy of the SLP.

IGP William Fayia Sellu, who wholeheartily welcomed Ambassador Briard and his delegation, underscored the significance of bilateral relations in addressing security challenges and the necessity for cooperation between Sierra Leone and France.

During their discussion, the IGP provided Ambassador Briard with an overview of the country’s current security situation, describing it as “relatively peaceful and secure.”

He attributed the stability to effective collaboration among Sierra Leone’s security agencies and their partners within the Mano River Union (MRU).
The IGP assured the ambassador that both citizens and visitors are safe, highlighting regular border security patrols conducted by security personnel as a crucial factor in maintaining national safety.

He informed Ambassador Briard about the newly launched Police Strategic Development Plan—a comprehensive framework designed to enhance the efficiency of the Sierra Leone Police in fulfilling their core mandates of maintaining peace and security.

Ambassador Briard expressed his gratitude for the warm hospitality he received and commended the police for their efforts in safeguarding the country.

He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the SLP through an exchange of ideas and training to address emerging challenges.

The meeting concluded with both parties reiterating their dedication to deeper collaboration in tackling security issues.
