In a notable show of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Orange Sierra Leone on Friday 28th February, 2025 handed over 100 durable tarpaulins to the National Commission for Persons with Disability at the Ministry of Social Welfare’s conference room, New England, Freetown.

In attendance at the official handing over ceremony were the Minister of Social Welfare, Mrs. Melrose Karminty, representatives of the National Commission for Persons with Disability, Orange Sierra Leone representatives and a cross section of disabled groups.
In her opening remarks, the Director of Hands-on Development and Social Transformation at the National Commission for Persons with Disability, Piloya Grace Nollah, reflected on how during the last raining season her office was inundated with complaints on leaky roofs and floodings at the shelters of persons with disability across the country, which prompted her to contact Orange Sierra Leone for help.
She commended Orange for understanding the plight of these vulnerable groups and for providing support to the plea of the Commission.
Zainab Kamara of Empowerment for Disabilities and Social Integration Group expressed her deep gratitude to Orange Sierra Leone for their unrelenting effort in alleviating the dire conditions of vulnerable groups, accentuating the need for business like Orange Sierra Leone can use their developmentally oriented initiatives to positively impact society.
Zainab Kamara added that the support not only offers physical shelter but also comes from a deep sense of empathy - with the company putting themselves in the position of the vulnerable.
In her statement, the General Secretary of Orange Sierra Leone, Dannetta Younge, delivered a compelling speech highlighting Orange Sierra Leone’s commitment to always adhering to their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), re-iterating the donation embodies the one of the company’s core values of care amongst being responsible and bold.
She stated that the company’s CSR ambition is firmly rooted in its value to show ‘Care’ for communities in which it operates, Orange being more than just an investor in Sierra Leone.
Madam Younge commended the Minister’s dedication to promoting inclusivity and promoting the rights of persons living with disability and concluded by stating that the company will continue to support worthy initiatives such as these.
The Minister of Social Welfare, Mrs. Melrose Karminty, expressed her gratitude to Orange Sierra Leone Management for their continued support in the country, stating that since her appointment, this is her first interface with a Mobile Network Operator (MNO) that has embarked on a CSR initiative.
She commended the company for their deep sense of responsibility in adhering to their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and demonstration of humanity.
