The Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security (MLSS) in partnership with the Sierra Leone Employers’ Federation and the Sierra Leone Labour Congress will from 30th April to 1st May, 2025 host the National Labour Conference (NLC 2025): Redefining Sierra Leone’s Workforce For A Digital Era.
With the theme "Shaping the Future of Work: Innovation, Digital Transformation, and Just Transition," this landmark event will focus on preparing Sierra Leone’s workforce for the demands of a rapidly evolving global labour market.
Speaking to a cross section of journalists and social media bloggers yesterday Wednesday 5th March, 2025 at the Ministry’s conference room at New England Ville in Freetown, the Director of Labour, Mr. Sinneh Bockarie, disclosed that the high-profile conference would assemble policymakers, industrial leaders, labour experts, and key stakeholders to tackle pressing workforce challenges and explore strategies for sustainable development.
He disclosed that the NLC 2025 is an initiative by the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security aimed at exploring the future of work in Sierra Leone.
The Director said the general objective is to convene key stakeholders to discuss and develop actionable strategies for the future of work in Sierra Leone, fostering an innovative and sustainable labour market, and to celebrate the significance of labour while providing a platform for job seekers and employers to connect.
Mr. Bockarie noted that the initiative aligns with the Medium-Term National Development Plan (MTNDP) by promoting youth employment, digital transformation, and workplace inclusion.
He said the NLC 2025 will present a unique opportunity to shape the future of work in Sierra Leone by addressing critical labour market issues and fostering collation among stakeholders.
Acting Deputy Director of Policy, Planning and Research in the Labour Ministry, Mr. Abu Bakarr Sillah, underscored the importance of NLC 2025, saying it’s not just a conference, it’s also a transformative platform to redefine the future of work in Sierra Leone.
He said the attendees will gain insights into global labour trends, build strategic partnerships, showcase innovations, and explore recruitment opportunities.
According to Mr. Sillah, the two-day event promises a dynamic programme that will include Expert Panel Discussions, Innovation and Technology Exhibits, Job Fair, Labour Day Festivities, Policy and Publication Launches, Labour Awards and Gala Dinner.
He concluded that the National Labour Conference 2025 is a pivotal moment for Sierra Leone to redefine her labour landscape and align her workforce with national and global development goals.
