The Government of Sierra Leone through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and the Government of the People’s Republic of the China have signed an economic and technical cooperation agreement.

The signing which was done at the Ministry’s Conference Room, Tower Hill in Freetown on Friday 1st February 2019 marked the support of the Chinese government to the marine and fisheries sector to the tune of thirty million United States dollars for the construction of a modern fish harbour in Sierra Leone.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Chinese Ambassador, His Excellency Wu Peng in disclosing the support of the Chinese government to Sierra Leone registered the commitment of China in supporting President Bio’s New Direction development policy.

According to him, this support is part of the many goodies his government has in plan to promote the government’s strides in many sectors in the country.

He said the recent visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to China will bring major achievement in the area of economic technical cooperation between the two countries.

Dr. Alie Kabba expressed thanks and appreciation to the Chinese government for the support, saying the construction of modern fish harbour in the country will enhance foreign exchange for the government and job opportunities in the country.

He said China is a major player in Sierra Leone growth effort principally In infrastructure, health, human resources development, mining and agriculture.
According to him, the development trajectory of the New Direction is moving on with the support of the Chinese government.
