Following investigation received by the Sierra Leone police, the CID Headquarters in Freetown is currently investigating a case of suspicious movement of heavy duty and mining equipment allegedly imported by a Chinese company, GHANWIAN (SL Ltd) and the illegal entry of four Ghanaians.

The said equipment whose goods are yet to be identified inside the forty feet container was driven by road from Ghana through Burkina Faso, Mali and Guinea and entered into Sierra Lone through Diang Chiefdom in the Kabala district without security clearance.

The three Chinese nationals were arrested for delivering fuel to the suspicious convoy on heavy duty trailers impounded by police in the Mongo Division.

Also a combined team from Fisheries ministry, Sierra Lone police and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces Maritime wing arrested a fishing vessel with five Indian crew members and one Guinea Bissau national.

The vessel, according to one police officer had been in our territorial waters since December 2018, which led to suspicion that something is cooking.

Three Interpol officers from Lyon in France assisting their Sierra Leonean counterparts, alongside Marine department, CID Headquarters and National Control Bureau are helping the investigations. This was revealed in a press briefing held at police headquarters on February 14, 2019.
