Notwithstanding stiff uncompromising resistance from the All Peoples Congress whose erstwhile government ministers, deputies and heads of MDAs are under investigation by the three judge led Commissions of Inquiry, an overwhelming majority of Sierra Leoneans across tribe, region, politics, religion and class have praised President Bio for his revolutionary idea of subjecting former government officials to account.

Noting that they were not blind to the outrageous lifestyles of officials of the former government, the majority welcome the probe as a big step forward in bringing back discipline, responsibility, transparency and accountability into the government’s governance culture.

The massive unchecked corruption was what deprived Sierra Leone of any meaningful development gains in the past eleven years.
With only tip of the mountain of corruption that characterized APC rule in the past eleven years, citizens have been astounded by revelations made so far of blatant acts of robberycommitted by officials in some of the ministries so far investigated.

The people following the proceedings are also flabbergasted by the quantum of monies alleged to have been misappropriated or wasted.

One thing many people frown at was how due processes were not followed in purchasing goods and services for the government and how prices were grossly inflated for goods bought at the detriment of the state and its poor people of which the fertilizers and ambulances are no exception

For those who believe that President Bio’s fight against corruption is genuine, they point at the freedom and latitude to investigate and prosecute corruption, as well as to recover monies stolen by public figures.

They note that this action by President Bio will go a long way in deterring his own appointees from falling prey to the temptation of stealing huge amounts of public money.

There is also certainty among the populace that with President’s tough stance against corruption, funds that otherwise would have gone into the deep bottomless pockets of corrupt public officials will now largely be utilized to provide citizens with the basic essential goods and services, such as the free education and improved medical services that the majority of the people have lacked; thereby resulting in a gradual improvement in their standard of living.

For this, the people are grateful to President Bio for daring to take the bull by the horn and saying enough is enough to corruption.
