In reaction to growing traffic congestion in the main streets of the capital city Freetown, the Inspector General of Police, Dr Richard Moigbeh in consultation with the Force’s Executive Management Board, have deployed police officers at all major traffic points across the length and breadth of the city.

The aim of the exercise is to help decongest traffic, with the effect already felt in Lumley.

Under the New Direction, the police has been recommended for taking a no nonsense approach to crime prevention and enforcement of the law in the spirit of enforcing discipline and minimizing corruption.

It could be recalled that towards the end of last year, President Bio held talks with the country’s security chiefs at a dinner hosted by his wife – the First Lady – Mrs Fatima Bio at the Presidential Lodge, Hill Station wherein he called for more and effective inter-agency collaboration to improve security in the country.

President Bio praised the security chiefs for their patriotic service to the nation. He said despite the difficult challenges, they have always acquitted themselves well in discharging their duty to the fullest.

He said that he was satisfied with the progress made so far in the eight months of his new government, especially in re-branding the image of the nation on the international stage.

The negative perception people held across the world of Sierra Leone is fast changing because of disciplined leadership, Bio said.

“I have promised and will continue to provide the quality leadership we need to move this nation forward. The perception out there is beginning to change. When they talk about serious nations now, we are being mentioned as one of them, which is a very good start that we all can collectively build on,” the President said.

Meanwhile, as quality and standard education serves as one of President Bio’s flagship programmes in the New Direction Government, the Sierra Leone Police has opened the Sierra Leone Peacekeeping and Law Enforcement Academy.

The institution caters for both professional and academic courses for law enforcement officers, agencies and private security firms and all categories of members of the security sector with standard training for both national and international peacekeeping.

At the opening ceremony, I. G. Moigbe noted that, “Development can only thrive in a secure and safe environment; this has led to the phenomenal expansion of the security industry, making the role of law enforcement agents and private securities more complicated.”
