As inhabitants and travellers continue to face serious constraints in accessing regular fuel supply service in those deprived communities in the provinces, the Executive Chairman of Petroleum Regulatory (PRA), Dr.Brima Baluwa Koroma has expressed the necessity for Oil Marketing Companies (OMCs) to extend their fuel service to TonkoLimba Chiefdom, Kambia district.


TonkoLimba Chiefdom for a long period now has been faced with frequent fuel shortage that makes both the riders and drivers to engage in buying fuel from the black market to the tune of Le10,000 per litre in a daily basis presently.

Speaking in Freetown, PRA Boss encouraged OMCs to extend their geographical footprint within the deprived communities in the country to places like TonkoLimba in the north, Gbangbatoke in the South and Buedu in the east.

This, he said, would reduce the risk of transporting fuel in jelly cans in long distances between towns and villages.

He furthered re-echoed President Julius Maada Bio New Direction key government priorities areas, which among all, is the support of every initiative that makes energy access for all a reality.

Dr. Brima Koroma reiterated that the oil and gas is at the forefront of creating sustainable energy solutions, reducing energy emissions and increasing energy efficiency.

He furthered stated that all gas stations under construction across the country should continue to report to the Agency for distance requirement and other sustainability assessment.

PRA Boss reminded OMCs that they are accountable to energy consumers, the users of their products and services, the stakeholders and the regulators to ensure compliance is achieved.

He further stressed that PRA in this new direction is to effectively implement government policies on the downstream activities including refinery, jetties, retail outlets, petroleum transportations, efficient pricing etc.

The inhabitants there are appealing to government through PRA for OMCs to establish fuel services in the chiefdom in a bid to bring to an end their sufferings for such important commodities in the lives of people.
