The National Telecommunication Commission (NATCOM) under the leadership of Director General, Maxwell Massaquoi and Deputy Director General, Daniel Kaitibie has undertaken a countrywide compliance check. The move is to ensure that radio operators, VSAT users, high frequency and very high frequency radio communications operators conform to their statutory obligations.

In Kailahun the team visited Radio Moa 105.5 and in Koindu, Radio Kissi Bendu 107.7. The two radio stations had their transmitters and mixers removed for failing NATCOM's statutory regulations.

The situation was also similar in Kenema where Eastern Radio 101.9, Radio Nongowa 101.3, had their transmitter and mixer seized.
Similar compliance check was made in Bo were transmitters were confiscated at Kiss 104 and one more.

The team also went to Zimmi, Pujehun town and Sahn Malen.
Similar checks were conducted in the West and North West regions. Radio Bankasoka and Radio Tumac were also reprimanded for failing to comply with NATCOM regulations.

The team was however pleased that most of the mobile subscribers in the south and east have registered their SIM card.

On the demand side, NATCOM is also taking audit of call quality offered by the cellular operators, including the enforcement of SIM registration process.
Under the astute leadership of the DG, the Commission has embarked on many industry transforming activities including the just concluded Commonwealth

Telecommunications Organization conference in Freetown on broadband internet for rural areas.

The Director General has succeeded in regaining NATCOM's membership in the African Telecommunications Union. The Commission also hosted Commonwealth Telecommunications Organization conference in Bintumani two weeks ago, a cyber security workshop was also conducted in which participants were drawn from government institutions and the private sector.

The Commission is also working in partnership with the Mano River Union to create one area network which will afford calls to be charged as a local call in the area.

It will enable subscribers to travel to any of the Mano river basin countries and use their local sims to make calls, with the calls charged as local calls, eliminating roaming charges.
